How Long Do You Grill Asparagus

How long you grill asparagus depends upon what temperature you grill it at. No, I am not trying to insult your intelligence. If by chance, your grill is at 600 degrees it will literally melt the asparagus and it will disappear through the grill, gum up things up big time. You don't want to do that.

So cool it! Set your grill at a moderate temperature. If you have a gas grill, 350-400 degrees, no hotter, should suffice. Turn on only one burner, and wait for it to get up to temperature with the hood down. Experiment a little, you'll get it right!

If grilling on a charcoal grill, use moderate heat. I would even push the coals a little to the side and grill on the cool side.

Remove the woody part of the asparagus, wash and pat dry. Before you grill the asparagus, make sure you apply a coat of Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. This helps immensely in keeping it from sticking to the grill.

Once on the grill, you will want to roll, flip the asparagus with a set of sturdy tongs until you have grill marks on all sides. You can tell when things are" starting to get done" when it changes to a darker green, gets limp and you get those "beautiful grill marks".

Don't overcook!

But, "hold the phone"! I prefer to add a few things to asparagus besides Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. I use a seasoned, or aged rice vinegar dressing and marinade which is a balsamic blend, Kosher Salt and a freshly ground pepper in my recipe.

If you want a taste that is beyond just Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, you will want to marinate the asparagus for about an hour in this concoction: Apply a moderate amount of oil, a very moderate amount of the seasoned balsamic vinegar, and rub it all in thoroughly.

Next, sprinkle salt and pepper on. Don't get carried away with the salt....a little goes a long way. Rub everything in some more and let it sit.

I don't know how to tell you this, but don't buy crummy asparagus. In Oregon, as well as many places, good asparagus only comes in spring-time and the season is over in mid June. This is the time of the year you will get the "very best".

The rest of the year, asparagus can be imported from anywhere, just make sure it is of good quality.

You can use grilled asparagus in salad recipes. You will wonder why you didn't think of it before. And, you can always make a "funky" creamy asparagus soup.

Asparagus should only take about ten minutes to prepare on your grill. Remember not to overdo it.

Paleo Diet Breakfast – Discover 2 Finger-Licking and Lip-Smacking Paleo Breakfast Recipes

Okay! I hear someone is looking for some finger-licking paleo diet breakfast recipes. Is it you?

Listen, I wish I can provide you with loads of simple-to-do, yet excellent tasting breakfast recipes that are Paleo-compliant. I have at least 310 recipes (all printed out) sitting on my computer hard drive but here, we have limited space therefore I can only offer you 2 super yummy recipes.

No worries though. Right after the following recipes, I'll show you where to download copies of jam-packed Paleo cookbooks.

For the time being, here are two of my favorite paleo diet breakfast recipes:

Recipe (1)

Fennel and Cucumber Combo with Over-Easy Eggs.

Ingredients:

Eggs cooked over easy

Cucumber about 3 inches, diced and seeded

¼ of a big fennel bulb, also diced and seeded.

¼ Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

4 - 5 Kalamata olives, finely diced

½ lemon zest

1 Tablespoon olive oil

A tiny pinch of sea salt

Directions:

Just thoroughly mix the above ingredient and then lump them together with your eggs. The fennel goes really well with the egg yolks. Absolutely tasty!

Alright now, for a truly satisfying Paleo diet breakfast meal! Let's cover...

Recipe (2)

Paleo Egglamb Sandwich

Ingredients for 'Paleo-friendly bread'

1 large egg

1 cup of shredded coconut

For sandwich filling

Fried shredded lamb

Eggs done omelet style

Directions for making the Paleo bread:

Put shredded coconut in a blender. Next pour blended coconut into a bowl, add the egg and stir well. You'll end up with a batter than can be shaped like a pancake.

Grease a skillet with some olive oil and fry the batter. Flip to cook both sides. Now that your "Paleo bread "is ready, just pile it together with the omelet and shredded lamb. The result? Paleo diet breakfast meal that is sinfully yummy!

Paleo Diet Snacks – Presenting the Quickest Way to Get Heaps of Incredible Paleo Snack Recipes

I used to feel sick of dieting the Paleo way simply because there was a lack of simple and tasty recipes on paleo diet snacks. Naturally, I turned to the internet for help but alas, surfing for hours online in search of quality Paleolithic diet recipes proved to be futile.

See, I discovered quite a large number of recipes that were supposed to be "Paleo-friendly" from an all-in-one-place recipe website but the problem was...

Those recipes did not adhere to guidelines set by the Paleolithic diet rules!

Now, I understand that some people do not follow the rules vigorously, thus may wish to add one or two non-Paleo food ingredients to enhance the flavor of a particular recipe - but still...

Great tasting paleo diet snacks recipes were very difficult to find!

Okay to cut a long story short, I finally uncovered a really quick way to obtain heaps of not only snacks, but also Paleo appetizer, main course, dessert and even special sandwich and noodle recipes that can all be prepared without breaking the Paleo guidelines.

Here's how you do it...

What you should do is access a registration-free Paleo diet foods discussion site. The members in discussion/chat sites are very generous and they're always willing to share helpful information including recipes and resources for the benefit of all Paleo diet practitioners

In fact, one of the site members (Special thanks to user name:paleocaveguy82) was so kind enough to point me to a site where I was able to download digital cookbooks containing more than 300 Paleo recipes. Incredible stuff!

Now, I have all sorts of ideas on how to conceive Paleo diet snack recipes that are not only easy to do, but taste wonderful as well.

Anyway, you can also download an entire set of Paleo cookbooks that are chock full of tasty recipes, all in-one-place. Very handy reference so download by following this link: http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

The Secret Is In the Sauce – A Raw Food Chef’s Taste Trick - LearnRawFood.com

My name is Jennifer Cornbleet, but sometimes when I'm cooking, my alter-ego -- 'Saucy Susan' - takes over. You see, I love what sauces do for the flavor and texture of a recipe, and I'm always looking for ways to sauce-up a meal or snack.

The problem is that I don't like what the ingredients in traditional sauces do for my waistline or my arteries. That's why it was important to me to re-imagine sauces in both of my raw cookbooks, Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People and Raw for Dessert.

You might be wondering what kind of sauce recipes would be appropriate to a desserts cookbook. Raw food sauce recipes, like their traditional counterparts, can be sweet or savory. Some of my favorite raw food sauces serve as the 'crowning glory' on ice cream sundaes.

So in this article, I'd like to invite everyone to 'get sauced' the healthy way...with some delicious raw food sauce recipes that you can whip up in no time.

It's the Sauce, Silly

Do you know where a lot of the flavor can be found in a dish? That's right! In the sauce. After all, isn't fettuccine just pasta until you spoon on Alfredo Sauce? Isn't a vegetable spring roll just 'bunny food' until you give it a whole new personality by drizzling on a spicy, flavorful Thai-style peanut sauce?

Imagine ice cream without hot fudge sauce. Or think about where a certain fast food giant would be today if it served two all-beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onion, on a sesame seed without 'special sauce'?.

It's easy to see that to get more flavor into every bite, the secret is in the sauce. What is less easy to see is that the ingredients that go into typical sauces - like butter, cream, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, refined sugars, etc - are not healthy.

For example, there are 850 Calories in a single serving of Fettuccine Alfredo from Olive Garden and 432 of those calories are from fat. As for the Big Mac, it has about 560 calories...with nearly 100 of them coming from the sauce which is made from salad dressing, pickles, and brown sugar.

Dessert sauces are the biggest culprits when it comes to sneaking in fat and calories. A two-tablespoon serving of a commercial hot fudge sauce manufactured by Smuckers, for example, has 4.5 grams of fat and 18 grams of sugar. That doesn't sound so bad if you can limit yourself to just two tablespoons...but I know that I can't!

There are other problems with traditional sauces, too, that occur because of the processed foods used to make them. The recent problem with commercial peanut butter underscores how much healthier it is to use ingredients that come straight from your garden...or your local farmer.

That's the whole theory behind the raw food movement: using fresh, local ingredients to make delicious meals and snacks. So I've found ways to make Alfredo without the cream...peanut sauce without the processing...and lip-smacking dessert sauces without a hint of refined sugar.

Care to join me for a dip into sauces?

Raw Food Sauce Recipe Ideas

Raw food sauces are (you've heard this phrase before) delicious and nutritious. For example, my recipe for raw food Fettuccine Alfredo dresses translucent ribbons of pale green zucchini with a sauce made from soaked cashews and a tasty spice blend. Believe me; you won't miss the cream or the butter (or the fat and calories).

If you like your sauces green instead of white, try my raw food Pesto. Like the original, my recipes calls for basil leaves, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pine nuts. The only difference is that the pine nuts are raw instead of roasted.

One of my favorite raw food sauce recipes is the Mock Peanut Sauce that I created for Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People. Traditionally, this sauce calls for roasted peanuts, but I use raw almond butter instead. As well as retaining more nutrients, I think raw almond butter actually tastes better in the recipe.

You can make your own almond butter or purchase it in stores. Just make sure you choose raw almond butter.

Mock Peanut Sauce

• 1/2 cup raw almond butter

• 1/4 cup water

• 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

• 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

• 2 teaspoons tamari

• 1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic

• 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

• Dash cayenne

• Dash salt

• Place all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth

This simple raw food sauce can be kept for up to five days in the refrigerator. Drizzle it over your favorite veggies at lunch or dinner or use it as a dipping sauce to add Asian flair to the crudités your serve at your next party.

Every Day Is Sundae

I created my raw food Chocolate Ganache Fudge Sauce for all the chocoholics I know (including me!), but I never miss a chance to introduce people to my rich, nutty Caramel Sauce. Instead of the butter and sugar of a traditional caramel, this nutty brown sauce call for dates, cashews, vanilla...and dark agave syrup.

Agave syrup (also called nectar) is a natural sweetener made from the juice of the agave plant. I use the dark version in this recipe to give the caramel a deep, molasses-like flavor and color.

Raw Food Caramel Sauce Recipe

• 1/2 cup raw cashew butter

• 1/2 cup dark agave syrup

• 1/2 cup Date Paste (see below)

• 2 tablespoons vanilla extra

• 1/8 teaspoon salt

• Place all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

Date Paste is made by soaking Medjool dates in filtered water and then processing the fruit along with the soaking water into a paste-y consistency.

This caramel sauce is a 'natural' when it comes to topping off a raw food ice cream sundae where nut milk replaces the dairy variety. It's also amazing on top of cake or in-between the layers.

For a really decadent dessert, you can drizzle Caramel Sauce and Chocolate Sauce over ice cream and top with crushed raw nuts and dried fruits. Amazing!

When You Want to Warm Up After a Cool Down

Like the savory raw food Mock Peanut Sauce above, the sweet raw food Caramel Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator. To take the 'chill off' before serving, follow this simple process:

• Place 2 inches of water in a saucepan and bring to boil.

• Turn off the heat.

• Place a small bowl of sauce in the hot water (The sides of the bowl should be high enough so that the water from the saucepan cannot flow into the sauce)

• Let sit for 20 minutes

• Stir to achieve proper consistency.

As an alternative, you can place the bowl in a food dehydrator at 105 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

Interested in buying a dehydrator? Want to know where to get raw nuts? I've got information about products and ingredients I use and recommend at Raw Food Equipment and Serving Ware. There's a quick description and when I've been able to find them, links to purchase items at Amazon.com

Enjoy!

10 Guilt-Free Snacks For Weight Loss

When you know which categories of foods are healthy it's a lot easier to chose healthy snacks. Contrary to popular belief, snacking is actually very beneficial. It helps to refuel your body, maintain blood sugar and energy levels as well as control your appetite.

Healthy snacking will help your body get the nutrients it needs and help you avoid overeating at meal times.

Indulge in these guilt-free snacks. Remember we encourage an anti-inflammatory, low-glycemic, paleo-style diet for weight loss and wellness. A body must get healthy before it can lose weight.

1.Fruit and Yogurt Parfait.Organic plain yogurt is best. Flavored yogurts have a higher sugar content. Instead, flavor your yogurt with fruit. Blueberries are an excellent choice as they have a lower glycemic content that will help balance blood glucose and insulin levels.

2.Romaine Lettuce Wrap With Organic Turkey and a Slice of Raw-Milk or Skim Mozzarella Cheese.

Romaine lettuce contains the highest nutritional and fiber content of all lettuce. Turkey is 94% protein which helps you to lose weight by boosting your metabolism and decreasing hunger. Adding raw milk grass-fed cheese not only adds flavor but also adds calcium without any harmful hormones or preservatives. A great source for grass-fed wild meat, game and poultry is at U.S. Wellness Meats.

3. Veggie Sticks With Cottage Cheese Dip. Non-starchy vegetables contain almost eight times the amount of fiber found in whole grains. Fiber is essential for a healthy digestive system. Fat-free organic cottage cheese makes an excellent low calorie snack.

4. Shrimp Cocktail Shrimp is 90% protein. Try dipping it in some cocktail sauce for a low calorie, high protein snack.

5. A Handful of Nuts. Walnuts are the best choice as they're rich in protein and fiber but they also contain a high dose of omega 3 fatty acids (good fats) as compared to other nuts. Healthy fats help lower your risk of disease. Omega-3s are anti-inflammatory, meaning they help prevent inflammatory diseases such as stroke or heart disease. People who are overweight are actually suffering from an inflammatory condition.

6. Celery Sticks and Almond Butter. This is a great combination of protein, monounsaturated fat and energy. Almond butter is a healthier alternative to peanut butter as it contains no added ingredients or preservatives and better fats. (peanuts are a legume not a nut)

7. Deviled Eggs. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and make a great snack any time of the day. My Guacamole Deviled Eggs are a great high-protein healthy snack with good fats.

8. Herring Wraps. Buy a few tinned containers in a few different flavored sauces such as tomato or tangy mustard, herring fillets are high in omega 3 fish oils. Don't but if they are in soybean oil. Try wrapping them in a few leaves of romaine lettuce.

9. Banana Nut Pop. Dip a banana in plain organic yogurt and roll in walnuts or coconut. Freeze. Yummy!

Bananas are a great source of fiber and potassium. Don't eat too many they do have a higher sugar content. Coconuts have anti-microbial, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties and are one of the best sources in the world for MCFA (medium-chain triglyceride fatty acids)

10. Lemon Tuna Avocado Snack. Halve an avocado and scoop out the flesh. Mix with lemon juice and tuna. Serve in the shells. Good protein, good fat.

Avocado's are high in monounsaturated fat and potassium. Tuna is a nutrient-dense food, high in omega-3 and a great source of protein. Protein builds muscle which in turn burns more calories to help you lose weight.

And here's your BONUS snack idea....

***Smoked salmon.

Don't get salmon that's been smothered in brown sugar. Salmon is one of the best sources of protein and healthy fats on earth. Try to buy wild-caught, not grain fed salmon.

Paleolithic Diet Food List Super Paleo Food List And Recipe Combo For Your Gastronomic Pleasure!

When it came to finding precise Paleolithic diet food list and recipes, part of me felt like giving up! This happened months ago when I was first introduced to the world of Paleolithic nutrition diet. See, there was so much contradicting information on what can or cannot be eaten by a Palo diet follower.  Alright look, we don't have to be so neurotic about it. We do have the choice of adding non-Paleo friendly ingredients in our daily meals. Really, it all depends on your level of strictness.   And besides, there are plenty of seasoning alternatives to juice up the taste of your daily Paleo meals. For example, many folks like to add salt in their dishes (me too!). Now, in the caveman diet list, salt is a no-no item.

So what can you do?
Well, I just use vegetables organic kelp granules or add more sautéed onion, garlic and shallot combo to juice up the taste of my Paleo foods.  Listen, I learned A LOT of about Paleolithic diet food list along with tons of tasty recipes from several downloadable cookbooks. Other foods to be avoided by strict Paleo followers - Maple syrup, coffee beans arrowroot and gelatin.

Now, here's one of my favorite paleo diet recipes!

The Appeal Of String Cheese As A Quick Healthy Snack

Of all the different kinds of cheeses available today, perhaps none represents the needs of modern society as much as string cheese does. Taking advantage of the way some cheeses are structured, string cheese is molded, extruded, or braided into strings that can be individually wrapped for consumers.

The end result is that instead of having to cut your cheese for a snack, you need only open a small package. Because of this, string cheese makes a great, healthy snack for those on the go, from kids to adults.

Big on Health and Taste

Most string cheese in the United States is made from mozzarella, a fresh cheese traditionally made from buffalo's milk. Because of this, it is an extremely healthy snack food, containing a high percentage of the recommended amount of calcium for individuals. In addition, it is naturally low in calories, so for those who are trying to lose weight, it's a great snack to have without feeling guilty.

Despite the fact that it's a healthy food, string cheese is not overly bland like healthy foods often get portrayed as. Mozzarella has a mild flavor that's a hit with children and adults alike, having been popularized in other foods such as pizza and lasagna. Because of this, it's rare to find someone who doesn't like string cheese; it lacks appeal only to the most finicky of eaters.

Convenient Packaging

Because the shape of string cheese lends itself well to being wrapped individually, it's a common feature in the bags of people on the go, whether it's a student at school or an adult at work. The single-serving packaging of string cheese puts it on par with small bags of chips for convenience; just open the package and throw out the wrapper.

It has also found its way into many vending machines thanks to its small size, which makes it a great alternative to the other snacks available. Even if you buy it at the grocery store and take it home, the size makes it easy to slip into a purse or a book bag.

Two Warnings

There are a couple of things about string cheese that should be considered before consuming it. First, keep in mind that for those who need or want a low-sodium diet, you may be better off finding another snack. However, by soaking it in water prior to eating, you can reduce the salt content of the cheese.

The other thing to keep in mind is that while many snacks hold up well to being warmed up, only a few seconds in the microwave will change string cheese so that it does not pull apart as easily. Unless you want a pile of melted mozzarella, it's best to simply eat your string cheese as intended, and enjoy the convenience of this snack food.

Italian food has turned into one of the faves in the family. Many of us have, regretfully, not inspired the chance of making an Italian cuisine part of our family menu because it is viewed that Italian recipes are too complex. Some of the ingredients that Italian cuisines are renowned for are : meats, cheese and grains that are used as a combination in the creation or making of these distinguished flavors that are respected and accepted all over the world. You won't be disappointed if you put your intellect to it and it is also reasonably straightforward to make your own style of Italian recipes. The origins of Italian gourmet tastes, foods, and traditions are rooted in simplicity and natural availability. Italian cooks have always employed the plants that grew where they lived and the animal products from the animals that flourished where they lived. Today in the land of pre-processed foods that are available year-long, that can be considered'gourmet'. In fact, it is just the genuine Italian way.

If there is a person in your life that is a fan of Italy and pines for a little taste of conventional Italian flavors in an Italian meal, there are paths to electrify even if you haven't set foot in Italy yourself.
the initial focus to please your fan of Italian cuisine is to figure out what part of Italy they like best. Italy is made from one or two regions, each with its own farming and traditions.

Therefore , they are likely to use polenta or Arborio rice ( risotto ) than pasta in their meals. Seafood is employed primarily in the cuisines of seaside ( and lakeside ) towns, such as Venice, Como, Rimini, Cinque Terre, Sorrento, and Rome.

Learning which food types are typical of the city that your Italy fan loves, is a big step in the direction of making a remarkable Italian meal experience.
If your Italy fan is far away, or if she or he has more fun making their own Italian meals, an Italian hamper is an exceedingly thoughtful present.

a bit of study to discover the part of Italy that the one that you love is missing is the ticket to re-creating the sorcery that they fancy. Well done and brava to all of you who wish to create the authentic Italian experience for the Italy fans in your life.

Paleo Cookie Recipe – How to Bake Some Extremely Yummy Paleo Diet Cookies

Oh man, I just had some paleo diet cookies and they were reeeeeally delicious! I'm very pleased that the whole batch turned out alright, so you know what I'm going to do now?

Well, I'm going to share this extremely yummy paleo cookie recipe with you. I want you to try out this paleo cookie recipe and then go right ahead and spread the joy...

Yes spread the joy my friend! Meaning you should share the cookies with your loved ones, family, friends, your pet tortoise or hamster, whatever...It's all one love from here on out!

You know, my fiancé used to chide me for going on the paleo diet. She said "the caveman diet" was boring because you can't consume pasta (her fave food), preservatives, rice and other staple foods of most people on this planet.

So when I said to her I wanted to try this paleo cookie recipe, she just scoffed and said it's going to taste "really bland" like most paleo diet meals.

Now, what she didn't know is that I had downloaded a collection of Paleolithic diet cookbooks. I've tried some of the recipes in those cookbooks and they tasted fine. That gave me the confidence to give this paleo cookie recipe a test drive!

You can check out the cookbooks by visiting the link at the bottom of this recipe.

Alright, I apologize for blabbing too much. Here's the paleo cookie recipe. Try it!

You'll need - - > 2 tbs arrowroot powder, 1 cup coconut flakes, ½ cup of maple syrup, ½ tsp organic kelp salt alternative (or just use the regular one if you like), ¼ cup of sesame seeds, ¼ cup of sunflower seeds, ½ cup of finely chopped pecan, 1 tsp of vanilla essence, 4 egg whites

Directions:

(1) Beat the egg whites until stiff peak have formed.

(2) Dry fry coconut flakes, pecan and seeds until they become slightly brown.

(3) Drop arrowroot powder, salt and egg whites in a bowl and combine well.

(4) Fold in coconut, pecan, seeds and maple syrup until combined well.

(5) Lay a parchment paper onto your cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. Next, scoop the mixture with a tablespoon and place on the paper.

(6) Finally, bake the mix at 150 degrees C for approximately 25 minutes or so. Once the cookies are fully browned wait for them to cool and then...

Eat, eat, eat and don't forget to spread the joy! Also don't forget to pat yourself on the back for giving this paleo cookie recipe a shot. Good luck!
